LoL Worlds 2019 Tournament Format

League of Legends Worlds 2019 Team Predictions. By Warren Francisco. Image via League of Legends. The tail-end of the season is fast approaching, and we have arrived at the point where all roads meet: the World Championship. Worlds is usually the yardstick through which an organization's success is measured— a. The final tip in our 2020 LoL Worlds Predictions has to do with spending. The League of Legends World Championship is the biggest tournament in the LoL esports scene, so many punters take it as a cue to make high-stakes wagers. Yet, the principal rules of bankroll management remain the same.

We just have to start our LoL Worlds 2019 preview with the tournament format. The most important competition in the League of Legends pro scene begins on October 2 and lasts all the way until November 10, which might seem like a lot of time for a single event. However, anyone looking into League of Legends World Championship predictions needs to remember that this tournament is effectively split into two parts: the Play-In Stage and the Main Event.

  • Find out here all you need to know about LoL Worlds 2019 Tickets.

Worlds Play-In Stage

This is the wild west of the tournament. The Worlds Play-In Stage acts as the proving grounds for eight first-seed teams from the emerging regions and four third-seed teams from the major leagues. Each of these squads comes with its own style and identity, which it will be able to showcase in a 12-team double round robin group stage.

The Play-Ins might seem forgiving at first. After all, each group is composed of three teams, and two of them get to advance to the next stage of the event. The competition gets stiffer in the playoffs, as teams clash in grueling single-elimination best-of-five series. And once the dust settles, only four Play-In teams will go on to represent their regions in the Main Event.

Worlds Main Event

It's no secret that the bulk of League of Legends World Championship predictions is made for the Main Event. This is by far the most important part of the tournament. Here, the four best-performing Play-In teams join the twelve strongest major-league teams in a cutthroat double round robin group stage.

Each group is composed out of three teams, and every match turns into a do-or-die moment since only the two lineups with the best win/loss records can qualify for the playoffs. The margins for error are slim, and even a single game can be the difference between turning into one of the best teams in the world or becoming a disappointment for your region.

Things get even wilder in the knockout stage. Much like in the Play-Ins, the matches switch to a best-of-five format. This time, however, teams get more time to prepare for their opponents, so you can expect them to attack each other from a multitude of different angles.

The Main Event comes to an explosive conclusion with the two strongest League of Legends teams battling each other in the finals, so expect to see a ton of League of Legends Worlds Championship odds for this matchup. And at the end of it all, the last team standing will lift the 2019 Worlds trophy and claim a large chunk of the multi-million dollar prize pool.

LoL Worlds 2019 Predictions: Teams and Favorites

No LoL Worlds 2019 predictions would be complete without a list of competing lineups. At the time of this writing, many teams are still in the process of qualifying for the event. However, every region works in a different way, so some squads have already made it to the League of Legends Worlds Championship Play-In Stage and Main Event.

Play-In Teams

  • Royal Youth (Turkey, TCL)
  • MAMMOTH (Oceania, OPL)
  • Isurus Gaming (Latin America, LNN)

Main Event Teams

  • FunPlus Phoenix (China, LPL)
  • Royal Never Give Up (China, LPL)
  • G2 Esports (Europe, LEC)
  • SK Telecom T1 (South Korea, LCK)
  • Griffin (South Korea, LCK)
  • Team Liquid (North America, LCS)
  • Cloud9 (North America, LCS)
  • J Team (Taiwan, LMS)
  • ahq e-Sports Club (Taiwan, LMS)

LoL Worlds Favorites

Of course, the core component of a League of Legends World Championship betting guide is identifying the favorites. Many fans will be looking at G2 Esports, a team of European superstars that picks its enemies apart through creative macro and relentless aggression, to repeat their MSI 2019 success and claim another international title for the LEC.

However, they won't go unchallenged. SK Telecom T1 are looking stronger than ever, and their ace—Faker—has already gone on record claiming that he wants to exact revenge on the reigning MSI champions. The Chinese teams are not to be underestimated either. Royal Never Give Up have long since established themselves as a League of Legends powerhouse—largely due to the overwhelming firepower of the bot lane duo of Uzi and Ming. And while the name FunPlus Phoenix might not be familiar to Western viewers, there's a reason why this squad is considered the best Chinese team to not make an appearance at international tournaments.

LoL Worlds 2019 Predictions: Betting Tips and Strategies

Another key part of a League of Legends World Championship betting guide is tips and strategies. The vast majority of LoL esports leagues has the same organizations competing against each other over the course of lengthy seasons. Meanwhile, Worlds 2019 will have a bunch of teams from all over the globe participating in a ruthless race for the trophy. Playstyles will clash, players will face unexpected matchups, and things will get very hectic as a result. Here are 3 tips to help you make sense of this chaos:

1. Anything Can Happen

For several years, the League of Legends community kept repeating that anything can happen at Worlds. Yet, this might be the first time that it's true. Unlike what most League of Legends World Championship predictions would like you to believe, there's no well-defined favorite here. Sure, G2 have a good chance of taking the trophy, but the same can be said about any other top team.

2018

This means you need to be open-minded. Experts and analysts might be claiming that they know which team is going to take the trophy, but it's nigh impossible to accurately gauge everyone's power levels when there are so many variables to account for. The best way to circumvent this is to trust your own eyes. Keep tabs on the Twitch stream and try to figure out what are the strengths and weaknesses of attending teams. And use this knowledge to predict how they match up against each other.

2. Pick Your Battles

There's going to be a lot of teams at Worlds 2019. For many of them, this will be the first international event in their history. For others, the pressure might get so overwhelming that their rosters will implode from within. That's all to say that it's incredibly risky to gamble on untested lineups. Whether you're dealing with a squad of promising up-and-comers or a domestic powerhouse that's just making its international debut, things can go horribly wrong in a matter of seconds. So think twice before you bet any money on them.

3. Control Your Spending

The final tip in our LoL Worlds 2019 preview has to do with spending. The League of Legends World Championship is the biggest tournament in the LoL esports scene, so many punters take it as a cue to make high-stakes wagers. Yet, the principal rules of bankroll management remain the same. You never want to bet more than 5% of your gambling budget on a single matchup—otherwise, you'll be way too susceptible to variance. And it's only when you learn to control the swings that you will be able to make money off the 2019 League of Legends World Championship.

Here are the top Non-US betting sites we recommend for betting on the LoL World Championship 2018:

It's Been a Crazy Ride so Far

Just like I mentioned in the introductory paragraph, this year's installment of LoL Worlds has been one heck of a ride. Basically, in all somewhat important matches, the underdogs showed everyone what they are made of.

Just think about it – All Korean teams have already been knocked out of the competition. In fact, some will proudly say that this is the year of the EU LCS. 2 of their teams have reached top 4 with at least a single podium spot already guaranteed. On the other hand, there is also Invictus Gaming, the only Asian team left in the competition. We mustn't forget Cloud9 either, all North American hopes rest on this team to go through to the grand finals of League of Legends World Championship 2018.

LoL Worlds 2018 – The Year of Underdogs

Let's start off by stating that 2 out of 4 semifinalist teams have played in the Play-In groups. This means they were the lowest seeds coming into the tournaments, with the smallest chances of going through to the semifinals. And to think that both of them could play in the finals against each other, well that would make an exclamation mark on the statement LoL Worlds 2018 The Year of Underdogs!

Needless to say, Fnatic and Invictus Gaming are clear favorites to go through to the grand finals. But let's not talk about this for much longer, this is something we'll discuss later on in our LoL Worlds 2018 semifinals betting analysis.

Moving forward, many people are wondering if League of Legends World Championship 2018 will keep on being the year of underdogs or will the favorites manage to reach the grand finals. LoL Worlds 2018 Semifinals Betting Analysis

Cloud9 vs Fnatic

Who would have thought that Cloud9 will be 1 match away from reaching the finals of LoL Worlds 2018. Their season was far from perfect, capturing the last ticket to the Worlds via NA LCS Regional Finals as the third NA seed coming into the competition. With that said, it's really understandable how so many people were left puzzled after witnessing C9's triumph over Afreeca Freecs. Sacramento kings playoff odds 2020. But we'll have to back things up a bit since it all started in the Play-In group stage where they defeated Gambit Esports to make their way into the group stage of the Lol Worlds 2018.

The key to this match (we're talking about the last round with 2-2 on the scoresheet) was a near perfect match played by Svenskeren in the jungle. Bottom lane was in good hands too which made the snowball to mid game that much easier. Svenskeren's Graves played a pivotal part in their quarterfinals victory again. Aggressive (some would say squishy at times) performance and mid-game team fight focusing were what took both Gambit and Afreeca Freecs by surprise. That plus great individual character made Cloud9 a force to be reckoned with.

Still, Cloud9 players haven't earned the title of the favorites in their semifinals match against Fnatic. Rekless is having a blast out there with Broxah not being too far behind either. Their synergy (alongside others from their team) has shown to be at desirable levels quite often. Their consistency is absolutely brilliant too… In last 10 matches, (8 of which were a part of Lol Worlds), they only have a single defeat against Invictus Gaming. And it wasn't the Tiebreaker – Fnatic won that one with surprising ease.

After having a wonderful LCS season and crowning their success by winning in the finals, many in the esports community expected Fnatic team to fail at the very start of LoL Worlds group stage. Still, here they are, already in the semifinals, looking as mighty as they did in xPeke's golden era. Can they go all the way once again? Well… I actually believe they can! Perhaps they won't win the thing, but I believe they'll show their prowess against Cloud9 who can be happy they've reached the semis.

G2 Esports vs Invictus Gaming

Let's start off by stating that G2 Esports and Invictus Gaming were not in the top basket of favorites coming into the tournament. Sure, they are always tough teams to play against, but as far as LoL esports community was concerned, the real favorites were Royal Never Give Up and KT Rolster… However, as you all know, both of these teams got knocked out in the quarterfinals. KT Rolster by Invictus Gaming and Royal Never Give Up by G2 Esports. Both of these matches were absolute beauties and I'm sure LoL fans from all over the world enjoyed each second.

Invictus Gaming is a team filled with talent. JackeyLove's initial impression perhaps wasn't the best, but as time went on (especially during this tournament) he showed off glimpses of his brilliance. Thanks to that, we can now finally say that he's the last piece of the Invictus Gaming puzzle. Perhaps the piece that could bring them the trophy this year. Of course, we mustn't forget what a wonderful tournament Rookie is having. Invictus Gaming's immensely strong solo lanes are what drives them onward. The question is, can G2 Esports handle the transitioning of IG's solo lanes to mid and late game?

One thing is for sure, G2 Esports doesn't lack the talent to do so. Still, you have to understand that we are talking about another team that puts their fate into solo lanes. In terms of G2 Esports, that would be Wunder and Perkz. Who knows, with their crazy playstyle and off-meta 1-3-1 tactics, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sacre jumping in instead of Wunder. G2 Esports love mind games and this one would be a pretty messed up one too. Will they pass on the opportunity?

Jokes aside – if G2 Esports wants to win it all this year, they will have to keep rising up to the occasion as they did so many times already (especially during this tournament). IG will probably put extra emphasis against G2's Hjarnan so that's something Perkz and co will have to be ready for. Generally speaking, Invictus Gaming is still the favorite team to win this matchup if we are to judge by bookies' odds. Heck, they're the favorites in outright tournament winner bets as well. However, and this may not be the popular opinion, I believe G2 Esports players are ready to create yet another upset. And why not, if they could defeat Royal Never Give Up, they sure as hell can do the same to Invictus Gaming!
